This is a tough one. Many people have put it far more eloquently than I will, but we lost someone truly great yesterday.
He built an organization, built a family, and created a movement. For someone who will forever be 31 years old, he has left one hell of a legacy.
The latest updates are that a bolt action 30-06 rifle was found in the woods, with transgender and “antifascist” terminology scrawled on the bullet casings. The police have indicated they have clear pictures of the suspect, which have not yet been released, though we expect that will come imminently.
The extreme left is reacting just as you’d expect them to, and there have been a series of face-plants in left leaning media outlets, including CNN this morning describing the terminology inscribed on the bullet casings as pertaining to “cultural” issues. The spin and narrative-forming hasn’t ended, even amidst this tragedy.
Hopefully this is a Turning Point, and we can all find a way to honor Charlie. For all the talk and prognostications of right wing violence and fascism in the last 10 years, maybe this is a moment for some people to hold up a mirror and ask themselves some tough questions about who they are affiliated with.
Being a Gandhian gets harder every day.
