Moments ago former Director Comey was indicted for false statements and obstruction of justice. The indictment has been released.
Our first take is that if you’re someone who just wanted a headline, you got it. A former FBI Director has been indicted. If you’re someone who values our institutions and wanted real accountability, this indictment is weak and ill formed for that purpose.
It doesn’t strike at the heart of Russiagate, likely because the DOJ as an institution has failed to do a proper investigation for over 9 years. Instead, it relates to statements around whether Comey authorized Daniel Richman to interact with the media and whether Comey had authorized the release of classified information for that purpose.
Here it is:
~ a placeholder, to start the process. Not bad for 5 days work. EDVA needs to be cleared out, and it's already started w/Comey's son-in-law & Beikert out. Superseding indictments to follow as Halligan gets control of the office. Plus other folks are facing indictments. The dam has burst. ~
I’ll not hold my breath. Besides any trial’s in DC, right?
